What we will do when we arrive
- ✓Ask before we advise. How old the system is, which rooms never cool down, what the last two summers cost you in repairs, and how long you plan to stay in the house. A five year plan and a twenty year plan point to different equipment.
- ✓Look at the whole system. The condenser outside, the furnace or air handler inside, the ductwork, the returns, the electrical, and the thermostat. A new condenser bolted to leaky ducts still leaves the back bedroom hot.
- ✓Measure your house, not the old sticker. Square footage, ceiling height, window count and direction, insulation, and duct condition go into a load calculation that tells us the right tonnage.
- ✓Hand you written options. Good, better, and best, itemized, with the equipment named and the warranty terms spelled out. Take a day. Take a week. Get another quote if you want one.
Repair versus replace, and your AC installation Bakersfield options
Plenty of systems we look at need a capacitor, not a new unit. Our licensed technician diagnoses first and tells you straight which one you're looking at. Replacement usually starts making sense when you see a few of these together:
- ✓The system is twelve to fifteen years old and losing ground every summer
- ✓It runs on R-22, which is no longer produced in the U.S., so refrigerant gets harder to source each year
- ✓The compressor has failed
- ✓You've paid for repairs in back to back seasons

If it's time, you'll see three routes. Good is a straight changeout: a single-stage system meeting current federal efficiency standards, a matched indoor coil, new pad, and new line connections. Cold house, simplest path. Better adds a two-stage system and a smart thermostat, so the unit spends more time running gently instead of slamming on and off, plus repairs to the ducts we find leaking. Best is a variable-speed system with zoning, upgraded filtration, and duct replacement where the existing runs are undersized. We'll tell you which one your house actually needs.
Sizing done right
Oversizing is the most common mistake we find in Kern County homes. A unit that's too big cools fast, shuts off, and never runs long enough to pull humidity or push air to the far rooms, and the short cycling wears out the compressor early. Too small and it runs all afternoon in July without catching up. The load calculation is how we avoid guessing in either direction.
Permits and rebates, explained
A system changeout in Bakersfield needs a permit and an inspection. We pull it, schedule it, and meet the inspector. That paperwork matters later: an unpermitted install has a way of surfacing in escrow.
Rebate and financing programs change, and not every home or system qualifies. We'll tell you which ones are open at the time of your estimate, what equipment qualifies, and who files. We won't quote you a rebate figure we can't confirm.
What installation day looks like
Most standard changeouts take a day. Duct work, zoning, or an electrical upgrade can push it to two, and you'll know which one yours is before we start.
We lay floor protection, pull the old equipment, and haul it off. Then we set the new condenser, install the coil and air handler or furnace, make the electrical and refrigerant connections, vacuum the lines, charge to the manufacturer's spec, and run the system while we watch the numbers. Before we go, we walk you through the thermostat, hand over your paperwork and warranty registration, and clean up. The inspection gets scheduled after.
